What
is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture
therapy promotes health and alleviates pain and suffering. The perspective from
which an acupuncturist views health and sickness hinges on concepts of vital energy, or qi, energetic balance
and imbalance. Just as the Western medical doctor monitors the blood flowing through blood vessels and the messages
traveling via the nervous system, the acupuncturist assesses the flow and distribution of the qi within its pathways,
known as meridians and channels.
The acupuncturist is able to influence health by stimulating
certain areas along the meridians. The aim is to adjust the vital energy so the proper amount reaches the proper
place at the proper time. This helps your body to heal itself.
So far, modern research has described various physiological
shifts following acupuncture, such as beneficial changes in the body's own natural painkillers, anti-inflammatory agents,
immune system functions and hormonal activity.
What is
the history?
Acupuncture is at least 2,000 years old. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM),
which includes acupuncture, herbs, diet and exercise, is the most widely utilized healing system on this planet.
Why use
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine?
In addition to being effective for many acute and
chronic common illnesses, practitioners of acupuncture and energetic medicine operate with prevention in mind, attempting
to correct small imbalances before they become big health problems.
Are there
side effects?
When performed by a properly trained and licensed practitioner, acupuncture
is safe and effective, free from adverse or addictive side effects. Quite often, a sense of relaxation and well-being occurs
during and after treatments. While undergoing therapy for one ailment, other problems may resolve concurrently. This is a
common side benefit of treatment.
What are
the limits of Asian Medicine and Acupuncture?
Generally speaking, acute, life threatening conditions
are best handled by Western medical doctors. Routine health problems and chronic conditions, for which drug therapy and surgery
have not been effective, often benefit from acupuncture.
What should
I ask the practitioner I'm considering?
Always ask any practitioner about the extent
of his or her training. Have them explain the differences between energy medicine and Western medicine in language you can
understand.
Ask them about previous experience with conditions
similar to your own. Although it is difficult to forecast response to treatments, ask about the signs and changes the practitioner
looks for to confirm treatments are progressing well.
What is
treatment like?
Relaxing. Usually patients leave in less discomfort and are more functional
than when they walked in. Sometimes the effects are too subtle to perceive, especially in the beginning of treatment. Yet
after 10 to 15 treatments the improvements become apparent.
Is it safe?
What about the needles?
Yes. Licensed Acupuncturists know the human anatomy well, and
insert needles in a safe fashion. The instruments used to penetrate the skin are pre-sterilized and disposable after a single
use, and are much smaller than the standard hypodermic needle.
The practitioner is well aware of the concern over infectious
diseases, and takes every measure to insure cleanliness as all physicians do.
What is Neuro Emotional
Technique?
The Emotional Body
Fear. Anger.
Grief. Resentment. They can be powerful emotions. These and many other emotions can have a profound impact on our health.
Whether real or imagined, emotions can literally short-circuit our nervous system, affecting our beliefs, our behaviors, and
even our physical health.
Where Do You Keep Your Emotions?
A growing number of researchers
are recognizing the connection between the nervous system, emotions, and health. Historically, emotions were thought to reside
entirely in the brain. Today, scientists recognize other parts of the body hold emotions too. If you’ve ever referred
to something as a “pain in the neck” or encountered someone who was “galled” or “heartbroken”
or who “vented their spleen,” then you’re already familiar with how parts of the body can be linked to our
emotions.
Dreaming Without Sleeping
Have you ever
awoken in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat with your heart racing? Fortunately, the monster, dragon, or attacker
wasn’t real, but your body thought it was! Even imagined emotional events can have a profound impact on how our body
functions. We’re more conscious of this process when we have to give a speech, ask the boss for a raise, suffer the
loss of a loved one, or experience other negatively charged emotional events.
The Emotional Short Circuit
The “emotional
baggage” from the feelings associated with events and situations in our lives can haunt us for years. Like a computer
virus, these negative programs and associations are stored in our bodies, often short-circuiting our rational minds, our true
desires, and our optimum health. Doctors refer to these emotionally charged memories as an N.E.C. or Neuro Emotional Complex.
Just about everyone has them!
The Kryptonite of Health
Like the mythical
Superman weakened by Kryptonite, negatively charged feelings from past (and present) events can produce physical manifestations.
Fortunately, your practitioner is specially trained to help identify and neutralize these emotional short circuits (N.E.C.s).
The wonderful result can be a pleasant sense of well-being, a new level of confidence, and ultimately, better health.
Simple Muscle Testing
Just as static
electricity can make your hair stand on end, certain parts of your body can become negatively “charged” with an
emotional memory. The procedure for locating and neutralizing these stuck memory loops is simple. Your practitioner will ask
you some questions while testing your muscle strength, usually in the arm. If your arm suddenly becomes weak, your practitioner
can identify which nervous system circuit in the body is holding the particular emotionally charged memory.
Neutralizing the Snapshot
With a few
more questions, the practitioner can help you identify the specific trigger event (real or imagined) that is locked up in
a particular part of your body. You’ll be asked to form a mental picture or snapshot of the event in question. Then,
your practitioner will perform specific energetic adjustments to neutralize the neurological short circuit. It’s as
simple as that.
You’re Always in Control
After the neutralization
of each N.E.C., many patients report feeling that a tremendous burden has been lifted from their shoulders. Should the questions
get too personal or uncomfortable, simply tell your practitioner and the session will end. Patients enjoy the fact that they
are always in control.
Helping Your Body Heal
Certain N.E.C.s
may have overloaded your nervous system so that the energetic adjustment alone may not sufficiently restore neurological integrity.
Your practitioner may recommend certain homeopathic remedies to help your body heal short-circuited neurological pathways.
You’ll find these specially formulated liquids are totally safe, have a pleasant taste, and can be remarkably helpful.
Neuro Emotional
Technique is based upon a proven combination of the latest scientific research into the biochemistry of the nervous system
and time-tested techniques used for centuries in Eastern healing. When combined with the remarkable success of today’s
contemporary natural medical care, it becomes a powerful healing system enjoyed by appreciative patients around the world.
